Theotokaria were called the books containing collections of hymns to the Virgin Mary.

The present edited and improved edition of the Holy Theotokarion was based on the first edition of 1796 by Saint Nicodemus of Mount Athos, to the glory of the Lady Theotokos and for the benefit of all Christians. (From the presentation on the back cover of the book).
