The blessed Elder Paisios at the beginning of our communal life in 1968 had told us: "One virtue is only needed, humiliation; But, whoever is humble, doesn't he also have love? " These two "twin virtues," as Elder characterized humility and love, are the foundation of spiritual life, since they attract the Grace of God and give birth to all other virtues. "Just cultivate humility and love, he used to say, and as these virtues increase, pride and evil will remain atrophied and passions will begin to subside."
