Theia Anavasis - Interpretation to Saint Theognostos / Archimandrite Aimilianos Simonopetritis

The choice of the chapters by Elder Emilianos proved to be unique, because it gave him the opportunity to speak extensively on the important issue of priesthood, this precious gift that God gave to his creation, man.

Who was the holy Theognostos, who today becomes so relevant with the Elder's speech? St. Nicodemus says that we cannot know whether he was the Alexandrian, whom St. Photios mentions, or whether he was someone else. Modern patrologists, however, say that the text of Theognostos is of the 13th century, but we know nothing about the author.

Osios Theognostos is not mentioned in the dispute of hesychasm, so he must have lived before it, as abbot of a monastery in Nicaea. But we do not need to know exactly who the author was, since the text itself, as Hosios Nicodemus says, testifies that his poet was one of those who had excelled in practice and theory, and because of his purity he had "the grace of the Holy Spirit".
