The purpose of this study is to show that the period of Lent reveals in a special way the mystagogical character of liturgical time. As a modification of the ancient preparation of the catechumens in the Passover initiation, we will see that all the components of the Lenten liturgy - both hymnologically and structurally - are marked by this mystagogical seal.
