The life of Saint Silouan the Athonite illustrated, based on his biography by Elder Sophronios

Simeon Ivanovich Antonov was born in 1866, in the Tabov province of Russia. He was a poor peasant, almost illiterate. After his military service, he left in 1892 for Mount Athos, the Garden of the Virgin Mary and entered the Russian Monastery of St. Panteleimon, where at that time there were 2000 monks. When he became a monk, he took the name Silouanos, and lived in the monastery as a simple monk until his death in 1938. Elder Silouanos is an authentic witness of Christ, a spiritual man of our time. The simple and powerful language of the Elder touches the heart. His testimony has saved many people from despair.

On November 26, 1987, Elder Silouanos was recognized as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
