The Apostle Peter was from Bethsaida in Galilee and was a fisherman by profession. When Christ arrived at the lake of Gennesaret, he met Peter and his brother the Apostle Andrew and they become His disciples. Peter was distinguished for the uprightness of his character and the purity of his soul. After the Ascension of Jesus, he taught the Gospel in many areas such as Pontus, Cappadocia and Antioch. He was martyred in Rome in 64 AD. by crucifixion when Nero was emperor.

The Apostle Paul was born in Tarsus of Cilicia and was originally a staunch opponent of Christianity. His conversion took place when Christ appeared to him and received the holy baptism. He was the most important preacher of the Gospel and founder of the Church of Greece. He was even named Apostle of the Nations. He was martyred in Rome by beheading between 64 and 67 AD.

The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates them on June 29 of each year.
