Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Theodosius the Cenobiarch in pine wood with carved decoration.

Saint Theodosius came from the village of Mogarisos in Cappadocia and lived in the years of Leo the Great and Anastasius Dicorus. His pious parents raised him according to Christian ideals. At a very young age he became a monk and practiced near Symeon the Stylite and the ascetic Loginus. He quickly gained a great reputation, as a result of which he founded a large monastery complex near Bethlehem with a nursing home and a hospital.

The Patriarch of Jerusalem appointed him general supervisor of all the Cenobitic monasteries of Palestine and for this reason he was named Cenobiarch. The emperor Anastasius exiled him because of his action against heretics. Saint Theodosius passed away at the age of 105, in 529 AD. The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates him on January 11 of each year.

Apolytikion of Saint Theodosius the Cenobiarch

Plagal of the Fourth Tone

With the rivers of your tears, you have made the barren desert fertile. Through sighs of sorrow from deep within you, your labors have borne fruit a hundred-fold. By your miracles you have become a light, shining upon the world. O Theodosios, our Holy Father, pray to Christ our God, to save our souls.
