Weathered lithography (icon) of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ in pine wood with carved decoration.
The Transfiguration of Christ is one of the most important feasts of Christianity. According to the New Testament, Jesus ascended Mount Tabor for prayer, along with the Apostles Peter, James, and John. When they reached the mountain, the Apostles sat down to rest and fell into a deep sleep. As soon as they woke up, they saw the Lord shining and his clothes were all white. Jesus was talking to Moses and the Prophet Elijah.
Christ ascended Mount Tabor to show the glory of His Deity. The Transfiguration of Christ is an important despotic feast and is celebrated every year on August 6, the day of the inauguration of the homonymous church founded in Tabor by Saint Helen, mother of Constantine the Great.
Apolytikion of the Transfiguration of our Savior Jesus Christ
You were transfigured on the Mount, Christ God revealing Your glory to Your disciples, insofar as they could comprehend. Illuminate us sinners also with Your everlasting light, through the intercessions of the Theotokos. Giver of light, glory to You.
