Saint Nina was born in Cappadocia in the 3rd century AD. Her mother was called Sosanna and her father Zabulon who was a soldier by profession and a relative of Saint George the Trophy-Bearer. According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to Nina and urged her to go to Iberia, as it did.

Saint Nina, having with her a cross of vines, preached the Gospel in the region of Iberia and managed to convert its inhabitants to Christianity. In fact, he found the place where the Chiton of Christ had been placed and there he built the church of Saint Stylos. She slept in peace and her relic remained incorruptible. The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates her on January 14 of each year.

O handmaid of the Word of God, who in preaching hast equaled the first-called Apostle Andrew, and hast emulated the other Apostles; O enlightener of Iberia and reed-pipe of the Holy Spirit, holy Nina, equal to the Apostles: Pray to Christ God to save our souls.
