Saint Xenia was Roman in origin and lived in the 5th AD. century. Her original name was Eusebia. When her parents pressured her to marry a man of their choice, she secretly left for Alexandria with two maids. Then she went to the island of Kos and later settled in Mylasa of Karia.
In Mylassa, Saint Xenia built a monastery and a church dedicated to Saint Stephen the First Martyr. With her virtuous ascetic life she managed to attract many young girls who wanted to pray and live an ascetic life. The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates her on January 24 of each year.
Apolytikion of Saint Xenia of Rome
Plagal of the Fourth Tone
The image of God, was faithfully preserved in you, O Mother. For you took up the Cross and followed Christ. By Your actions you taught us to look beyond the flesh for it passes, rather to be concerned about the soul which is immortal. Wherefore, O Holy Xenia, your soul rejoices with the angels.
