Saint Dionysios, known as Draganigos Sigouros, was born in Zakynthos in 1547 AD. from a wealthy family from Venice of Italy. He was first ordained a priest and later bishop of Aegina with the blessings of the Archbishop of Athens. As a bishop of Aegina, he was distinguished for his pastoral activity and his humility. When he returned to Zakynthos, he went to the Monastery of Anafonitria where he lived an ascetic life until his death. Saint Dionysios of Zakynthos surrendered his soul to the Lord in the year 1622 AD. at the age of 75 years. The indestructible relic of the Saint is located in the homonymous Monastery of Zakynthos.
The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates him on December 17 of each year.

The faithful son of Zakynthos, Aegina's wise prelate, the protector of the august Monastery of Strophada, O wise Dionysius, with one voice, all we the faithful honour thee and cry: By thy prayers, save them that keep thy memorial and cry unto thee sincerely: Glory to Christ Who hath glorified thee. Glory to Him who hath made thee wondrous. Glory to Him Who made thee our unsleeping intercessor.
