Abraham was the great patriarch of the nation of Israel and is considered the ancestor of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was born in the city of Ur in Chaldea and married his half-sister Sarah. Together with his nephew Lot and his father, he left his hometown for Harran. He lived there for a long time, until his father passed away. God commanded him to go to Canaan with his wife Sarah and Lot, taking with him all his belongings. God promised in Canaan that he would make the people of Israel strong and respectable to all the tribes of the earth. Saint Abraham celebrates on October 9 every year.

Apolytikion of Abraham and Lot

Plagal of the First Tone

In the night universal of ignorance towards God, and in that starless, profound gloom bereft of heavenly light, thou, O Abraham, wast kindled in the firmament, burning with bright far-shining faith in the Everlasting Light, Who shone forth to us from thy seed. Do thou entreat Him with fervour, that He enlighten us and save our souls.
