Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle in pine wood with carved decoration.

The Saint Bartholomew was one of the twelve disciples of Christ. According to the New Testament, his name was Nathanael and his surname was Bartholomew. He was a close friend of the Apostle Philip and lived in Cana of Galilee.

According to church tradition, he preached the Gospel in Asia Minor, India and in other areas. In Armenia he was martyred by crucifixion and his relic was thrown into the sea and miraculously ended up in Sicily of Italy. The Orthodox Christian Church celebrates his memory on June 11 of each year.
