Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint David the Prophet in pine wood with carved decoration.
Saint David the Prophet was born in Bethlehem and was king of Israel. David was distinguished in a battle between the Philistines and the Jews, when he fought with the giant Goliath and defeat him with a stone that he had in his sling. The people of Israel glorified him after his victory and anointed him king after the death of Saul. He reigned for 38 years and died in the year 962 BC. His son Solomon succeeded him to the throne.
Saint David, who prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ, is honored by the Orthodox Christian Church on December 26 of each year.
