Saint James the Apostle was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. He was son of Zebedee and brother of the Apostle John the Evangelist. He came from Bethsaida in Galilee and was a fisherman by profession. He was distinguished for his zeal as a disciple of Christ and he was the witness of the Transfiguration of the Lord together with his brother John.

Saint James preached the Gospel in the region of Palestine and thanks to him many people embraced the Christian faith. By order of Herod Agrippa, he was arrested for his action and beheaded in 44 AD. The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates him on April 30 of each year.
