Saint Orestes came from Tyana, Cappadocia and was a doctor by profession. He lived at the time when the emperor of Rome was Diocletian who had begun a persecution against Christians. Orestes was distinguished for his fiery preaching and his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. As soon as the ruler of the region, Maximinus, was informed of the Saint's actions, he ordered his arrest. In front of the ruler, Orestes confessed his Christian faith, as a result of which he was imprisoned and suffered horrible tortures. Eventually, the Saint died a martyr, refusing to embrace the idols.

The relic of Orestes was placed in a glorious temple built by devout Christians in Tyana, Cappadocia. The Saint was a faithful soldier of Christ and is famous for his innumerable miracles. His memory is honored by the Orthodox Christian Church on November 10 of each year.
