Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Patapius of Thebes in pine wood with carved decoration.
Saint Patapius was born in the 4th AD. century in Thebes of Egypt by wealthy devout Christian parents. At a very young age he followed an ascetic life and retired to the desert where he spiritually guided those who visited him. He was later forced to move to Istanbul. In the area of Vlacherna he founded a sanctuary and became a miracle worker. He slept peacefully in old age.
The relic of the Saint was transferred to the monastery of Saint John of Petra by his spiritual brother Saint Varas. After the conquest of the city by the Ottomans, the nephew of Saint Ypomoni, Aggelis Notaras, transported the relic of Saint to Mount Geraneia near Loutraki. A nunnery was later founded there, the Holy Monastery of Saint Patapius in Loutraki. Saint Patapius is the protector of cancer patients. His memory is commemorated on December 8 of each year.
Apolytikion of Saint Patapius of Thebes
Plagal of the Fourth Tone
The image of God, was faithfully preserved in you, O Father. For you took up the Cross and followed Christ. By Your actions you taught us to look beyond the flesh for it passes, rather to be concerned about the soul which is immortal. Wherefore, O Holy Patapius, your soul rejoices with the angels.
