Saint Plato was born in the 3rd century AD. in Ankara of Asia Minor and was a fervent preacher of the name of Christ. The ruler of the region, Agrippinus, ordered his arrest and tried with flattery to persuade him to embrace the idols. Plato refused to betray his Christian faith. As a result, he was tortured horrifically and humiliated.

The Saint finally, after many trials, was beheaded and surrendered his spirit to God. Fragments of the Holy Relic of the Saint are found in the Monasteries of the Great Cave of Kalavrita, Zoodochos Pigis in Poros and Faneromenis in Salamina. The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates him on November 18 of each year.

Apolytikion of Saint Plato the Great Martyr

Fourth Tone

Thy Martyrs, O Lord, in their courageous contest for Thee received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since they possessed Thy strength, they cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons' strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by their prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful.
