Saint Raphael, known as George Laskaris, was born in 1410 AD. and came from the Mills of Ithaca. At the age of 35 he renounced the worldly and the profession of the military and became a monk. Later, he was ordained protosyggel and archimandrite. In the year 1450 AD. he went to the region of Macedonia and practiced asceticism there.
After the fall of Constantinople, the Saint took refuge in Mytilene where he settled in the old convent of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, near the village of Thermi. In 1463 AD the Turks invaded Lesvos and the monastery where Raphael was abbot. The Saint was arrested and submitted to horrific torture and finally he martyred.
