Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Theophilus of Mount Athos in pine wood with carved decoration.

Saint Theophilos was born in Zichni of Macedonia in 1460 AD. and was particularly distinguished in calligraphy. As a monk he was associated with Bishop Rentinis Akakios and Patriarch Nephon of Constantinople. Nephon showed great confidence in Theophilus, as a result of which he sent him as his representative to the patriarchs of Alexandria, Jerusalem and Antioch.

The Saint, after completing his mission, returned to Constantinople and later went to the monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos. In 1511 AD went to the monastery of Iveron where he engaged in copying manuscripts. He refused to be ordained metropolitan of Thessaloniki by Patriarch Theoklitus and ended up in Karyes on Mount Athos. There, he received and renovated the Cell of Saint Basil. He died peacefully in 1548 AD. and was buried in the forest by his disciple Isaac.

The Orthodox Christian Church celebrates his memory on July 8 of each year.
