Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Titus, Bishop of Crete, in pine wood with carved decoration.

Saint Titus was one of the 70 Apostles and the first Bishop of Crete. He was originally a pagan but converted to Christianity when he attended the teaching of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. As a disciple of the Apostle Paul, he followed him on his tours and became Bishop of Crete with his blessings.

Saint Titus the Apostle died in old age in the year 105 AD. in Gortyna of Crete. Fragments of the Holy Relic of the Saint are found in the Monasteries of Megisti Lavra, Pantokrator and Panteleimon of Mount Athos. The Orthodox Christian Church celebrates his memory on August 25 of each year.

Kontakion of Saint Titus the Apostle

Second Tone

O yoke-mate of Paul, together with him, thou didst preach the tidings to us of saving grace bestowed of God, O Apostle Titus, blest and elect revealer of mysteries; for which cause we cry out to thee: Cease not to entreat Christ God for all of us.
