Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saints Anargyroi Cosmas & Damian in pine wood with carved decoration.
The Saints Cosmas and Damian lived in Rome during the reign of Emperor Carinus. They were brothers and doctors in the profession. They healed the sick without receiving any money and for their virtue, they were given the miraculous gift. They even managed to persuade Carinus to deny the idols and embrace the Christian faith.
The Saints gained great glory and fame, a fact that provoked the envy of their teacher who killed them by stoning. Part of the Holy Skull of Saint Cosmas is located in the Holy Monastery of Pantokratoros of Mount Athos. A fragment of the Holy Relic of Saint Damian is found in the Roman Catholic Church of Saints Anargyroi in Rome. Their memory is honored by the Orthodox Christian Church on July 1 of each year.
