Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of The Presentation of Christ in the Temple in pine wood with carved decoration.
According to the Evangelist Luke, forty days after the birth of Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary went with her husband Joseph to the Temple in Jerusalem to dedicate the divine infant to God and offer as a sacrifice two turtledoves. On that day, Saint Symeon the God-Receiver was in the Temple and took the divine infant in his arms during the Presentation of Christ.
The Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ to the Temple is celebrated by the Orthodox Christian Church on February 2 of each year.
Apolytikion of the Presentation of Christ
Hail Virgin Theotokos full of Grace, for Christ our God, the Sun of Righteousness, has dawned from you, granting light to those in darkness. And you, O Righteous Elder, rejoice, taking in your arms, the Deliverance of our souls, who grants us Resurrection.
