Virgin Mary Myrtidiotissa is the icon of the Virgin Mary with Christ found in Kythira in the 13th century AD. She was named Myrtidiotissa because she was spotted by a shepherd in a valley of the island that was full of myrtles. The icon is kept in excellent condition in the small Church of Myrtidiotissa in an all-gold cladding made by Nikolaos Spithakis in the year 1827 AD. Τhe miracle of the cure of the paralytic at the beginning of the 17th century and the miracle of the protection of the fortress of Kythera by lightning in the year 1829 AD. as well as many other miracles are attributed to the Virgin Mary Myrtidiotissa.

The Synaxis of Panagia Myrtidiotissa in Kythira is celebrated by the Orthodox Christian Church on September 24 of each year.
