According to Dorotheos the Monk in his book "THE HOLY MOUNT" the story of this miraculous icon is as follows:

On Saturday, June 10, 982, Archangel Gabriel is hosted as a monk in the Pantokratorino cell of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. In the sequence of the ortho on Sunday, the submissive of the cell and the Archangel, after composing the whole sequence, arrived at the Ode to God, where in each megalinar of the Virgin Mary (see Luke a. 46 - 55) is attached the poem of Kosmas "The most honorable ... ". But before the eulogy, Gabriel adapts the pronoun "Axion estin ...", while the submissive remains ecstatic from the archangelic voice with the unheard words about Mount Athos.Then Gabriel, at the request of the submissive, writes the hymn with his finger on a stone slab and becomes useless ...

... The sacred icon in front of which the miracle took place, was transferred from that cell to Protato, where it is located until today. This silver-gold-covered icon of the "Axion esti" of Vrefokratousi is considered the common epitaph icon of Mount Athos and with it the great litany of Lambrodeftera takes place.
