Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Macrina the Righteous in pine wood with carved decoration.

Saint Macrina was the older sister of the Great Basil and Gregory of Nyssa. Her pious mother Emmeleia raised her according to the requirements of the Christian faith. He had rich spiritual and physical gifts. At the age of 12 she was engaged to a merciful and rich man, but he died before they got married. After his death, she devoted herself to raising the youngest children of her family and had a great influence, especially on the Great Basil and Gregory of Nyssa.

When she grew up, she retired with her mother to Pontus, where she founded a large and exemplary nunnery and acquired a great theological education. Saint Macrina died in 380 AD, a year after the death of her brother Basil the Great, after chanting a prayer to the Lord. Part of the Holy Relic of the Saint is located in the Holy Monastery of Stavronikita on Mount Athos. The Orthodox Christian Church celebrates her memory on July 19 of each year.

Apolytikion of Saint Macrina the Righteous

Plagal of the Fourth Tone

The image of God, was faithfully preserved in you, O Mother. For you took up the Cross and followed Christ. By Your actions you taught us to look beyond the flesh for it passes, rather to be concerned about the soul which is immortal. Wherefore, O Holy Macrina, your soul rejoices with the angels.
