Saint Augustine, born in Tagasti, Numidia, Africa in 354 AD, was a Christian philosopher and theologian. He was the eldest son of Monica and Patrick, a Roman pagan. He was catechized and baptized a Christian, influenced by the fiery sermons of Bishop Ambrose of Milan. When Valerius, a bishop of Hippo, fell asleep, he succeeded him to the throne. He shepherded his flock for 34 whole years prudently and died on August 28, 430 AD at the age of 76, leaving behind a huge work.

Part of the Holy Relics of the Saint are located in the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Peter Ciel D 'Oro in Pavia, Italy. Fragment of the Holy Relic of the Saint is located in the Monastery of Osios Meletios Oinoi Villion, Attica. The Orthodox Church commemorates him on June 15.

Apolytikion of Saint Augustine, Bishop of Hippo

Third Tone

Thou didst prove to be a radiant vessel of the Divine Spirit and an expounder of the City of God, O Blessed Augustine; and thou didst minister piously unto the Savior, as a wise and God-inspired Hierarch. O Holy Father, entreat Christ God that He grant us great mercy.
