Saint Antigone was one of the forty students of Deacon Ammun, who lived in Edirne, Thrace. They lived in the year 305 AD. reigned by the emperor Licinius in the eastern part of the Roman Empire, a terrible persecutor of Christians. Licinius had therefore given an order for the extermination of the Christians and his tyrannical order reached all the towns and villages.

The ruler of Edirne, Vavdos, referred Deacon Ammun together with his forty students to Licinius, the ruler of Thrace. After torturing them severely, he burned the first ten alive, beheaded the next eight, killed the next ten with a sword, struck them in the mouth and heart, and killed the remaining twelve with knives and glowing irons in the mouth. He killed Ammoun after he put an incandescent mask on his head (others say that he then beheaded him). Her memory is celebrated on September 1 of each year.
