Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, in pine wood with carved decoration.

Saint Ambrose was a distinguished Roman citizen and was born in 340 AD. He studied rhetoric, philosophy and law. In Milan he worked as a judge. He guarded the truth with words and deeds and objectively administered justice, even though he had not yet been baptized a Christian. And indeed, Ambrose loved God with his life. That is why God demanded that he be baptized a Christian, then become a reader, and after passing all the ecclesiastical degrees in a short period of time, after a decision of King Valentinian, he was ordained bishop of Milan.

As a bishop, Ambrose was an excellent shepherd of his flock. He fought against heresies and did not allow King Theodosius to enter the temple, except when he sincerely regretted the murders he committed at the Hippodrome of Thessaloniki. Ambrose died peacefully in the year 397 AD, at the age of 57.

Saint Ambrose is patron of justice.
