Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Eutychius of Constantinople in pine wood with carved decoration.

Saint Eutychius was born in 512 AD. in Theia Komi of Phrygia. His devotion to the Orthodox faith and theology resulted in his ordination as a deacon and elder in the monastery of Amasya. During his stay in Constantinople he impressed Patriarch Minas with his personality. When the Patriarch passed away, he ascended the patriarchal throne, with the favor of Emperor Justinian I. He was later deposed and exiled for twelve years. He returned to the patriarchal throne, when the emperor was Justin II, in 577 AD. He slept in peace in 582 AD.

His memory is honored by the Orthodox Church on April 6 of each year.

Apolytikion of Saint Eutychius, Patriarch of Constantinople

Fourth Tone

A model of faith and the image of gentleness, the example of your life has shown you forth to your sheep-fold to be a master of temperance. You obtained thus through being lowly, gifts from on high, and riches through poverty. Eutychios, our father and priest of priests, intercede with Christ our God that He may save our souls.
