Mount Athos weathered lithography (icon) of Saint Prochorus the Deacon in pine wood with carved decoration.
Saint Prochorus was one of the 7 Deacons ordained by the Apostles. According to manuscripts kept in the Holy Monastery of Patmos, Prochorus was a student and collaborator of the Apostle and Evangelist John on his tours in Asia Minor, Ephesus and Patmos.
When the exile of the Apostle John ended, Prochorus accompanied him to Ephesus. The Saint then went to Nicomedia where he took the position of Bishop and martyred. Parts of the Holy Relic of Saint Prochorus are located in the Monasteries of Megisti Lavra and Panteleimon of Mount Athos. The Orthodox Christian Church commemorates him on July 28 each year.
