Saint Xenia was born in Kalamata in the year 291 AD. by pious Christian parents, Nicholas and Despina. Due to the harsh persecution of Christians, her parents left Italy and settled on a farm outside Kalamata. From a very young age, the Saint was distinguished for her modesty, purity of soul and solidarity with her suffering fellow human beings.

When she once met by chance with the prefect of Kalamata Dometian, he was impressed by her beauty and wanted to marry her. The Saint refused to become wife of a pagan, as a result of which she was severely tortured by Dometian. Xenia, steadfast in her Christian faith, martyred in the year 318 AD. by beheading. The memory of Saint Xenia the Miracle Worker is honored by the Orthodox Christian Church on May 3 of each year.
